Welcome to our blog! We are Milwau-pali-ukes – a midwestern Ukulele band. Our name is a blend of Milwaukee and the Napali Cliffs. For inspiration we call upon the Legacy of IZ, nature, the Napali Cliffs of Kauai, Milwaukee, and Hawaii in general.

Ha ha a kazoo?? Is that considered a real instrument??
I learned three new chords this week, although I think only one is a real chord. Next up is trying to turn them into another original song.

Just did a little search for one of my favorite places – Mt. Rainier National Park in Washington State. So it appears they will have completed the renovations on historic Paradise Inn in time for the grand opening next weekend! The last time I visited, in 2006, it was bizarre to see the Inn w/ missing fireplaces etc.
I still remember when I arrived in June to work there (in the ’90’s) the snow was still around 10 feet high at Paradise and they had just removed the tunnels by the building entrances. As I was unpacking in my very small closet of a dorm room, there was a knock. To my surprise and amazement one of my best friends from elementary school (who had moved 1000 miles away at the end of element. school) was there for the day visiting and heard I was working there. Had not seen her in eons so it was a very nice shock & surprise.
At night I froze as the dorm room barely had heat. So I ripped apart paper bags and put them under my sleeping bag for warmth. Woke up the next morning to freshly fallen snow – the area was beautiful. Called the ‘rents the next day with a list of things from home to send eg more warm clothing! I thought I was prepared w/ the warm clothes I packed, but my clothes were no match for Mother Nature.
Anyone else have interesting memories of Rainier they’d like to share?
Anyway, how wonderful that Paradise Inn will re-open next weekend! It’s an inspirational place & I am inspired to write a uke song about it.
